Isle Of

A glorification of substance abuse
Or denial of it-
Jumping off cliff face
Into Superior
As if freezing water would shock these veins just enough
To experience a sliver of serenity,
Surmounting a mountain between friends
A mutual lack of oxygen
Couldn’t suffocate the feeling
That the grass might grow through our backs
And crags might envelop us
And how peaceful that it might be
To become truly,
Something worth looking up to

There was a lambent fire
Glowing in the distance
Hosting a Broadway play
Of shadows and cigarettes
Taking seat in a lone pine tree
Standing above the sunset,
Watching colours bubble and blur
Into earthy textures
If moments earlier
It was a still picture
Then being late wouldn’t matter
And going home would be turning a page
Revealing honestly
Where we left off
“You can’t live in this world
But there’s nowhere else to go”
